What is Semax?

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) — an analog of the ACTH(4–10) fragment developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is one of the most-cited compounds in the neuropeptide research literature. In Russia, semax is a registered prescription pharmaceutical; it is not approved by Health Canada or the FDA for any use, and the material sold on this page is a research chemical only. In the published literature, semax has been studied in vitro and in preclinical models in relation to BDNF expression and neurotrophic signalling in the central nervous system, and it appears in the research-neuropeptide (“nootropic-class”) literature alongside compounds such as Selank and DSIP. Formats in peptide research: vial vs nasal spray

Semax appears in the research-supply market in two formats: pre-mixed nasal-spray solutions and lyophilized vials. They contain the same compound in different preparations — a spray is a diluted solution in a metered bottle, while a lyophilized vial is dry peptide that a laboratory reconstitutes with bacteriostatic water at the concentration its protocol requires (our peptide guide covers reconstitution). Semax and Selank come from the same research institute but different parent peptides: semax is an ACTH(4–10) analog studied in neurotrophic-signalling models, while Selank is a tuftsin analog studied in stress-response and immune-signalling models. What is the difference between Semax and N-Acetyl Semax?

N-Acetyl Semax is a modified variant carrying an N-terminal acetyl group, studied in the literature for altered stability characteristics; amidated variants (N-Acetyl Semax Amidate) also appear. Quantum Peptides stocks the standard semax heptapeptide only — we do not currently sell the N-acetyl variants.
